Why the same bed costs half as much here

You already know what an adjustable bed does. What you want to know is why one shop wants three and a half thousand dollars for it and we want $1,599. Here is the whole answer with the numbers in it.

The mechanism

What is actually inside a showroom price

A bed reaches a showroom floor through four sets of hands. The factory builds it. An importer brings it into the country. A wholesaler distributes it. A retailer sells it. Every one of them adds a margin, and every margin compounds on the one before it.

Then the retailer has to cover the building on the highway, the lights that stay on all night, the staff on the floor and their commission, and the advertising that got you through the door. All of that is recovered through the price of the bed, because the bed is the only thing they sell you.

By the time a price tag goes on it, the bed itself is a modest share of the number you are looking at. That is not a scandal, it is simply how a shopfront works. You are just the one paying for it.

How the bed does it

Two motors and one remote

The base sits where your bed frame sits and your mattress goes on top. One motor lifts the head, another lifts the legs, and the bed holds whatever angle you set for as long as you want it.

Flat

Exactly like an ordinary bed. Nothing about the base stops you sleeping flat when you want to.

Head raised

Lifts the upper body, which keeps the airway more open and means you can sit up without building a wall of pillows.

Zero gravity

Head and knees both raised so weight spreads across the whole bed instead of pressing into the hips and lower back. On the 2.0 and 3.0.

Straight answers

The questions a lower price should make you ask

What is missing at that price?

Nothing structural. You are getting a two motor base with independent head and foot elevation, a wireless remote and adjustable leg height, plus a mattress built to flex with it. What you are not getting is a showroom to lie down in, a salesperson, or three intermediaries between the factory and your bedroom.

Is it cheap because it will not last?

The base carries a twelve year warranty on the frame and six years on the moving parts. A warranty is the cheapest possible promise to make and the most expensive one to break, which is why it is the number worth reading rather than the adjectives.

Who am I actually buying from?

Mattress Crafters, an Australian family business selling beds since 1963, now into a third generation. We sell online and hold stock in our own warehouse. Every specification and dimension is published on the product page before you spend anything.

Why is there no sale price?

Because a crossed out number that nobody ever paid is not a discount, it is a decoration. Our price is the price. If it ever changes it will be because our costs changed, not because it is the end of the month.

Queen base and the mattress built to bend with it, delivered free anywhere in Australia, about twenty minutes to assemble.

A bed reaches a showroom floor through four sets of hands. The factory builds it, an importer brings it in, a wholesaler distributes it and a retailer sells it, and each one adds a margin before it reaches your bedroom. On top of that the retailer recovers the building, the lights, the staff, the commission and the advertising, because the bed is the only thing they have to recover it through.

We buy direct from the factory that builds them, hold them in our own warehouse and send them to your door. One margin instead of four, and no shopfront on top of it. That is the whole difference, and it is why there is no sale price here and no crossed out number that nobody ever paid.

The things worth knowing

Do I need a new bed frame?

No. The base is the frame. It has its own legs and stands where your old bed stood. Most bed heads can stay and the base sits in front of them.

Can I use my existing mattress?

Only if it flexes. Most pocket spring and foam mattresses will, but a stiff mattress fights the base and can be damaged. That is why the kit includes a mattress built to bend with it.

How hard is it to put together?

Twenty to thirty minutes, and the legs are the only real assembly. It arrives ready to plug in.

What is covered by the warranty?

Twelve years on the frame and six years on the moving parts. The mattress carries its own separate warranty listed on the mattress page.

What if I do not get on with it?

The mattress is covered by our 120 night money back guarantee. The base itself is not returnable, so read the size and height details first. The base stays compatible with any flexible mattress in the same size.

Does it make noise at night?

The motors only run while you hold the button. Once it is in position it is silent.
