Buying it for mum or dad

You have watched them push themselves up off the edge of the bed and thought that is getting harder. This is the version of a fix that does not involve moving them or moving anything else.

The mechanism

What is actually making it hard

It is usually not strength, it is geometry. A standard base plus a mattress often sits below the height at which a person can simply step off the bed, so every morning becomes a push rather than a stand.

Then the mattress edge gives way exactly where they put their hands. Most mattresses have no reinforcement around the perimeter, so the surface they are pushing off is soft and moving at the moment they need it solid.

And coming up from flat on the back takes stomach and arm strength that is often the first thing to go. Starting from sitting upright removes that step entirely, because the bed has already done it.

The numbers

The context you are working in

Around 9 in 10
Australians over 65 intend to stay in their own home rather than move into care

This is an ordinary bed with a motor in it. It is not a medical device, we make no claim about preventing falls, and it is not supplied through any government scheme.

How the bed does it

Two motors and one remote

The base sits where your bed frame sits and your mattress goes on top. One motor lifts the head, another lifts the legs, and the bed holds whatever angle you set for as long as you want it.

Flat

Exactly like an ordinary bed. Nothing about the base stops you sleeping flat when you want to.

Head raised

Lifts the upper body, which keeps the airway more open and means you can sit up without building a wall of pillows.

Zero gravity

Head and knees both raised so weight spreads across the whole bed instead of pressing into the hips and lower back. On the 2.0 and 3.0.

Straight answers

The objections unique to buying it for someone else

They will say they do not need it.

Most do, at first. It helps that it is not obviously equipment. It looks like a bed, takes their own bedding, and the useful part is invisible until they use it. Plenty of people buy it as a comfort upgrade rather than a mobility one, and that framing is both easier and completely true.

Will it look like a hospital bed in their room?

No. No rails, no vinyl, no chrome. If that were not true this would be a much harder sell, because the appearance is usually the thing that gets it refused.

Who assembles it, since I am not local?

It arrives flat packed and goes together in about twenty minutes, mostly screwing the legs on and plugging it in. One person with a screwdriver can do it, so it is an afternoon job next time you visit rather than something they have to arrange.

What if it turns out to be the wrong call?

The mattress carries a 120 night money back guarantee. The base itself is not returnable, so it is worth checking the size and height details on the product page first, and the base stays compatible with any flexible mattress in the same size later on.

The price

What the same thing costs in a shop

A bed shop
$3,398
Queen adjustable base and mattress package, Beds R Us, listed price checked 15 August 2026. Queen bases on their own run $2,400 to $4,900 at Sleepy's before you buy anything to sleep on.
Motion Crafters
$1,599
Queen base and the mattress built to bend with it, delivered free anywhere in Australia, about twenty minutes to assemble.

A bed reaches a showroom floor through four sets of hands. The factory builds it, an importer brings it in, a wholesaler distributes it and a retailer sells it, and each one adds a margin before it reaches your bedroom. On top of that the retailer recovers the building, the lights, the staff, the commission and the advertising, because the bed is the only thing they have to recover it through.

We buy direct from the factory that builds them, hold them in our own warehouse and send them to your door. One margin instead of four, and no shopfront on top of it. That is the whole difference, and it is why there is no sale price here and no crossed out number that nobody ever paid.

The things worth knowing

Do I need a new bed frame?

No. The base is the frame. It has its own legs and stands where your old bed stood. Most bed heads can stay and the base sits in front of them.

Can I use my existing mattress?

Only if it flexes. Most pocket spring and foam mattresses will, but a stiff mattress fights the base and can be damaged. That is why the kit includes a mattress built to bend with it.

How hard is it to put together?

Twenty to thirty minutes, and the legs are the only real assembly. It arrives ready to plug in.

What is covered by the warranty?

Twelve years on the frame and six years on the moving parts. The mattress carries its own separate warranty listed on the mattress page.

What if I do not get on with it?

The mattress is covered by our 120 night money back guarantee. The base itself is not returnable, so read the size and height details first. The base stays compatible with any flexible mattress in the same size.

Does it make noise at night?

The motors only run while you hold the button. Once it is in position it is silent.
