The mechanism

Why lying flat is the hard part

When you lie flat, your lumbar spine has a natural inward curve that the mattress cannot fill on its own. Your lower back holds that gap under load for as long as you are in bed. Eight hours is a long time to hold anything.

Raise the head slightly and lift the legs so the knees sit above the hips, and the pelvis rotates back, the lumbar curve settles into the surface, and the load comes off the lower back. That shape is what people mean by the zero gravity position, and it is the one people spend years trying to construct out of pillows.

The problem with pillows is not the idea, it is that they do not hold. A stack under the knees is somewhere near your ankles by two in the morning, and you wake up flat again without ever knowing you moved.

This is a bed and not a medical device, and it will not repair a disc or a hip that needs a surgeon. What it changes is the position your body is held in for the hours you are in it.

How the bed does it

Two motors and one remote

The base sits where your bed frame sits and your mattress goes on top. One motor lifts the head, another lifts the legs, and the bed holds whatever angle you set for as long as you want it.

Flat

Exactly like an ordinary bed. Nothing about the base stops you sleeping flat when you want to.

Head raised

Lifts the upper body, which keeps the airway more open and means you can sit up without building a wall of pillows.

Zero gravity

Head and knees both raised so weight spreads across the whole bed instead of pressing into the hips and lower back. On the 2.0 and 3.0.

Straight answers

The things worth resolving before you buy

I already bought a new mattress and it did nothing.

That is the most common thing we hear, and it makes sense. A mattress sets the surface you lie on. A base sets the position you are held in. If the position was the problem, a firmer or softer surface was never going to reach it, which is why the money felt wasted.

My partner sleeps flat and will not change.

Then do not ask them to. A split king is two entirely separate bases side by side under one bed. Your side goes to whatever angle suits you, their side stays flat, and neither of you feels the other one move.

Will I actually use the adjustment or get bored of it?

Most people settle on one or two positions in the first fortnight and stay there. The remote stops being interesting quite quickly, which is the point. The bed simply sits at the angle that suits you from then on.

Can I keep my current mattress?

Only if it flexes. Most pocket spring and foam mattresses will, but a stiff mattress fights the base and can be damaged by it. That is why the $1,599 kit pairs the base with a mattress built to bend.

The price

What the same thing costs in a shop

A bed shop
$3,398
Queen adjustable base and mattress package, Beds R Us, listed price checked 15 August 2026. Queen bases on their own run $2,400 to $4,900 at Sleepy's before you buy anything to sleep on.
Motion Crafters
$1,599
Queen base and the mattress built to bend with it, delivered free anywhere in Australia, about twenty minutes to assemble.

A bed reaches a showroom floor through four sets of hands. The factory builds it, an importer brings it in, a wholesaler distributes it and a retailer sells it, and each one adds a margin before it reaches your bedroom. On top of that the retailer recovers the building, the lights, the staff, the commission and the advertising, because the bed is the only thing they have to recover it through.

We buy direct from the factory that builds them, hold them in our own warehouse and send them to your door. One margin instead of four, and no shopfront on top of it. That is the whole difference, and it is why there is no sale price here and no crossed out number that nobody ever paid.

The things worth knowing

Do I need a new bed frame?

No. The base is the frame. It has its own legs and stands where your old bed stood. Most bed heads can stay and the base sits in front of them.

Can I use my existing mattress?

Only if it flexes. Most pocket spring and foam mattresses will, but a stiff mattress fights the base and can be damaged. That is why the kit includes a mattress built to bend with it.

How hard is it to put together?

Twenty to thirty minutes, and the legs are the only real assembly. It arrives ready to plug in.

What is covered by the warranty?

Twelve years on the frame and six years on the moving parts. The mattress carries its own separate warranty listed on the mattress page.

What if I do not get on with it?

The mattress is covered by our 120 night money back guarantee. The base itself is not returnable, so read the size and height details first. The base stays compatible with any flexible mattress in the same size.

Does it make noise at night?

The motors only run while you hold the button. Once it is in position it is silent.
